After much reading, it is obvious that the heated TB is good for freezing conditions in the northern hemisphere, stops the TB & its butterfly valves .
I'm trying to convert this TPI throttle body to use on my Cadillac flathead. I'm only using it for air induction. I'm not sure what all these ports are.
Some of the aftermarket units do not have the water circulation connections. You don't really need them if you are not going to drive in very cold weather, there can be some icing of the throttle body under some conditions. Installing a water flow bypass is a common popular mod for the LT1 folk.From what I have read GM incorperated this into the throttle body to prevent any kind of freezing of the TB valve in extreme cold conditions by having water from the cooling system run through it.
A poor idle and lack of power still plagued us, so we did some research and felt a faulty fuel regulator and worn throttle body were the likely culprits. We ordered new parts online from Summit Racing, and a couple days later started spinning wrenches. I have bypassed the throttle body hose on my 87 and it runs just fine. There was a lot of electrolysis damage in the bottom of the throttle body caused by the coolant. The drivers side water inlet was also in very bad shape for the same reason and was allowing coolant to drip on the front of the engine.
